Your voice matters. Together, we can stop the Kaʻala Gondola Project. 🌿
Aloha,
I am writing regarding the Department of Planning and Permitting’s reconsideration of the Conditional Use Permit (DPP File No. 2019/CUP-18) for the Kamananui Agribusiness project proposed by Kaukonahua Ranch LLC on agricultural land below Mount Kaʻala in Waialua.
I respectfully oppose the proposed gondola and zipline development. As currently proposed, the project raises serious and unresolved concerns regarding consistency with agricultural zoning, public safety, environmental impacts, and effects on culturally significant lands.
The scale and nature of the proposed facilities appear inconsistent with the intent of agricultural zoning and would introduce tourism-focused infrastructure into a rural area not designed to support it. In addition, surrounding roadways and emergency access routes are already constrained, and increased visitor traffic would exacerbate existing safety and infrastructure challenges.
Given these concerns, I respectfully urge the Department to carefully reconsider the existing permit and deny approval of the project in order to protect agricultural land use, public safety, environmental resources, and the long-term interests of the community.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
